Our People

Posted

Welcome to the COEE Blog, an opportunity for us to be a community, not just on Sunday, but during the week as well.

On the Episcopal Church's website, you can download demographic data for the zip code area of any parish in the country. You can also read the report for our zip code here.

I very much want to know what the members of our community think. One item that caught my attention is at the bottom of page 4, which breaks down the population of our zip code by generations.

You can find out more about terms such as "builders" and "millenials" here. But look closely at the age groupings. Nearly 2/3 of the people who live among us are ages 4-44. For those of us 45 and above (I'm not naming names), this means that "our people" are our children and grandchildren.

This past Sunday, we read of how God called Moses "to bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt." If we think of our children, what burdens do they carry? What can we offer them? That strikes me as one question we ought to be thinking about as we work to define, not just who we are, but who we are for the people whom God has called us to.

Of course, that's just one piece of data about our people. What do you all see?
